Los Santos Diez Pueblos: A Coffee with Deep Roots
Nestled in the stunning, mountainous region of central-southern Costa Rica, Los Santos spans the cantons of Dota, León Cortés Castro, and Tarrazú—the latter being Costa Rica’s most celebrated coffee-growing area.
In 2019, Tarrazú earned a Denomination of Origin (DOE) certification, similar to Champagne in France. While many mountains in the region have historically been considered part of Tarrazú, this designation now defines a smaller, legally recognized area.
A New Name, Same Legacy
Formerly known as Tarrazú Don Roberto, our Los Santos Diez Pueblos reflects this change while honoring the same land, same climate, and same dedicated smallholder producers that have always made this coffee exceptional.
We’re also excited to introduce our new logo, designed by a Costa Rican artist, which captures the heart of this region’s coffee culture.
The 10 Towns Behind Diez Pueblos
The Los Santos Valley, often called the "Valley of the Saints," is home to many small towns, but 10 key communities define its coffee heritage:
San Marcos, San Lorenzo, San Carlos, Santa Maria, San Gerardo, San Pablo, San Andrés, San Isidro, Santa Cruz, and Copey.
Life in these towns revolves around the church, the soccer field, and the town café—and, of course, coffee. With around 7,000 families producing nearly half a million bags of coffee annually, coffee is more than a livelihood—it’s a way of life.
Expertly Processed for a Perfect Cup
Each coffee cherry is handpicked by smallholder farmers and delivered to Palmichal micro-mill or two nearby mills by the end of the harvest day. Overnight, the coffee is de-pulped and washed, then dried on patios before undergoing low-temperature mechanical drying with steady airflow for a consistent, high-quality result.
Developed by NKG export company Ceca for InterAmerican, this coffee maintains its signature profile every year:
- Sweet & balanced
- Creamy body
- Bright acidity
- Notes of milk chocolate, citrus, and caramel
Same exceptional coffee. A new name to celebrate its roots. We hope you love it as much as we do.
